A NEW pilates class is being launched in Yeadon.

Fitness instructor Emily Carvis will run the sessions at Yeadon Constitutional Club on Chapel Hill.

Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength and helps to improve general wellbeing.

The holistic work out concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility and the chance of injury is said to be much lower than with other more strenuous forms of exercise.

Emily said: “I am so excited about this new class. I want to get the folk of Yeadon strong and supple. Pilates also focuses on the mind-body connection leaving participants calm and relaxed.”

Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates, who was a gymnast. He invented it as an exercise program for injured dancers and soldiers.

The Pilates for Fitness class runs weekly on Saturdays at 9.30am, costs £7 and lasts just under an hour. Places are limited and can be booked on 0772 071 3731.
