HUNDREDS of people turned out to an open day which launched a new era for Yeadon town Hall.

An estimated 800 people attended Saturday’s event staged by the building’s new managers Yeadon Town Hall CIC.

Visitors enjoyed an afternoon of live music and were able to see the results of the first stage of the building’s restoration.

Since officially taking over management of the 140-year-old landmark

building on April 1 this year the CIC has been working

to refurbish and restore key areas of the venue.

Work has already begun on the main auditorium. The repainting of

parts of the hall in traditional colours highlights historical

detailing around the auditorium. New lighting and sound equipment have been installed along with a control booth.

The biggest transformation so far is the refurbishment of the theatre bar, now

known as the Town Hall Tavern. A staging area has also been added to the tavern so the venue can host smaller events such as quiz nights, comedy

showcases, play readings and open mics.

CIC director Jamie Hudson said: “Transforming key spaces in the building

such as the Town Hall Tavern in such a short amount of time

demonstrates the team’s passion, commitment and capability to truly

reimagining Yeadon Town Hall. Our restoration works so far complements

the building’s Victorian architecture and aesthetics while adding a more

modern, welcoming touch. We have no doubt our ongoing restoration

work will put Yeadon on the map as a great venue bringing exceptional

entertainment to the local and wider community.”

The Yeadon Town Hall CIC will continue to appeal to members of the

public, as well as corporate sponsors, to support the Restoration 2020

project, which aims to restore the whole building by the end of 2020. Those

interested can visit for more information on

purchasing a Wall of Fame plaque or other donation opportunities.

The official launch party for the Town Hall Tavern will take place on Friday

May 3 from 7.30pm. The event is free and entertainment will be provided by

the Dan Burnett Blues Band.
