DISCUSSIONS are underway to introduce a Parkrun in Ilkley in 2019.

It is one of four new Parkruns to be introduced in the Bradford district as part of a push to get more people active.

New figures show that while the percentage of people in Bradford who do less than 30 minutes of exercise a week has fallen, a quarter of adults are still classed as “inactive”.

An annual report by Active Bradford, which will be discussed by councillors next week, reveals what efforts are being made to get more people exercising.

Parkrun events are one of the big success stories. They are timed weekly 5k runs in public parks and in recent months Cliffe Castle in Keighley and Myrtle Park in Bingley have been added to the list of local parks to host such events.

The report says that there are discussions underway to introduce four new Parkruns, including one in Ilkley. It adds: “all are expected to commence in 2019.”

The report will go before Bradford Council’s Regeneration and Environment Scrutiny Committee when it meets at City Hall on Tuesday.
