THE CHEVIN Cross has been raised above Otley to mark the approach of Easter.
The 36ft high symbol has been an iconic feature of the local landscape at Easter for almost every year since it was introduced by the Otley Council of Christian Churches in 1969. It was put in place again at Surprise View on Saturday.
Leeds North West MP Alex Sobel said: “It was a great pleasure to help put up the Otley cross. It was a lovely opportunity to preserve the cultural traditions of the town. The cross has been a staple for many years and I know that it gives people enormous pleasure to look up at it every Easter time. I’d like to congratulate the organisers for another successful year and am thankful that it was a bit warmer this time.”
