GREEN campaigners are calling for link road proposals to Leeds Bradford Airport to be halted.
A public consultation on the schemes is coming to an end this week and a further consultation is planned for later this year.
But Friends of the Earth say local people have already voiced their opposition to the idea of a link road in an initial public consultation in 2015-2016. The group says 55 per cent of respondents were opposed to a new link road.
Simon Bowens, Yorkshire campaigner for Friends of the Earth, said: “With school children now marching on the street demanding action on climate change and local councils across West Yorkshire declaring climate emergencies, West Yorkshire Combined A uthority need to reconsider the wisdom of pushing ahead with an expensive road to a high carbon airport.”
A Leeds City Council spokesman said: “We’re currently having a major consultation exercise to ensure as many people as possible express their opinion on these proposals and welcome all views.”
