OTLEY Town Council has held a minute’s silence to honour the victims of two recent terrorist attacks.

Councillors this week remembered 50 people who were killed in attacks on mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand and the three people who were shot on a tram in Utrecht, in the Netherlands.

Town Mayor Councillor Mary Vickers, addressing the full council on Monday, March 25, said: “I would like to express our condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones.

“Words are inadequate at a time like this but we would like to convey our solidarity by observing a minute’s silence.”

Two mosques in Christchurch were attacked by a gunman on Friday, March 15. The attack caused 50 deaths and left another 50 people injured.

The Utrecht attack took place on the morning of Monday, March 18 when three people were killed and seven others wounded in a mass shooting on a tram.
