LEEDS is offering condolences and support to the city's Muslim community after the deaths of 49 people in shootings at two mosques in New Zealand.
The city council's leader Judith Blake issued a statement after the killings in Christchurch.
She said: "We are shocked and saddened to learn of the terrible events in Christchurch and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with all the victims and their families.
"On behalf of the council, I have been in touch with representatives of the Muslim community here in Leeds to express our condolences and offer a message of support, unity and togetherness at this difficult time."
