KEIGHLEY and Ilkley MP John Grogan has voiced concern after a surge by about a half in unemployment levels within the constituency.
He spoke out after figures revealed there were 1,575 claimants last month, compared to 1,050 in January last year.
"After a period of low unemployment it is concerning to see the figures rising in Keighley and Ilkley," said Mr Grogan.
"Local employers are telling me the uncertainty surrounding Brexit is a significant contributor."
He will outline the latest position regarding the Parliamentary Brexit debate at a meeting in Ilkley tomorrow (Feb 21), organised by Leeds for Europe.
The meeting is at Christchurch, in The Grove, at 7.30pm.
"The impact of Brexit on the local and national economy will certainly be one of the topics of discussion," added Mr Grogan.
