IN June 1990 the Leeds Guild of Singers gave a concert in aid of Romanian Orphans at the Kings Hall in Ilkley.
At that event the programme included songs, duets, a piano solo and two “dramatic monologues”.
On Saturday, March 2nd they will return to Ilkley, this time to St Margaret’s Church in Queens Road at 7:30 pm. The programme this time, entitled “Holy Minimalism”, will be a complete contrast to the one from last century.
Put together by the Guild’s young musical director, Joseph Judge, the evening will feature British, Scandinavian, and Polish composers, whose bright, contemporary works are often inspired by a deeply held faith. Being recent music the audience will be treated works by Arvo Pärt, Knut Nysted, Howard Skempton, Philip Glass, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Paweł Łukaszewski and Sven-David Sandström.
