PLANNERS will consider redevelopment proposals for a major industrial site in Otley next week.
Norwood Homes (Westgate) LLP wants to build a new care home and supermarket, along with residential properties and retail units, on the largely derelict Ashfield Works site.
The scheme would involve some of the unused buildings being demolished, the conversion of a former printing press manufacturing property for retail use, and the creation of a new pay and display car park.
The proposals were not welcomed by Otley Town Council when it met to discuss them last year.
Otley councillors described the plans as ‘badly designed and poorly thought out’, and said the three storey, 66 bedroom care home would be over-dominant, with poor access.
They also raised serious concerns about the impact on the local road network, and especially the busy Manor Square junction.
The application will be considered by Leeds Plans Panel (South and West) at Leeds Civic Hall on Thursday, February 21.
