BOOK-LOVERS in Bramhope can now pick up a new read from an old phone box.

The Bramhope Book Exchange has been created by converting the disused red kiosk on The Parade, off Breary Lane. It was opened on Saturday, January 19 by Bramhope & Carlton Parish Councillor Martin Fogel.

The purchase of the phone box only cost a nominal fee of £1 but the parish council then had to cover refurbishment expenses of £1,700.

Members of the A Novel Idea book club helped to clean the kiosk and stock the shelves. Member Tracy Cratchley said: “Donations have been received from many residents, so a big thank you to all. And a special thank you to Sue Hogg, who donated the shelving, and the parish council for funding the refurbishment.

“We hope the Book Exchange will effectively run itself; it is a free community resource open to all. Please feel free to come and browse, take a book away, and leave one you no longer want in its place.”
