Eight-year-old Annabelle Sutcliffe has helped two charities by having her long hair cut.

Annabelle, decided to donate her hair to the Princess Trust after her parents, who are both nurses, told her about children who wore wigs because they had cancer.

The enterprising youngster, from Yeadon, also raised more than £1,200 in sponsorship for the Mary’s Meals charity which gives food to some of the poorest children in the world.

The parish of St Peter and Paul in Yeadon rallied round to support Annabelle, cheering her on as she underwent the cut after church one Sunday morning.

Mary’s Meals Community Ambassador June Heatley said:”At first she was a little worried about whether anyone would be interested in helping her, but many people heard about her kindness and what she was going to do.”

She added: “She has been brave and generous and so many people have been inspired by her determination to help that now there are almost 100 children who will be receiving food, thanks to Annabelle’s kindness . She is very young, but is a tremendous example of how we all need to look for ways to help and support our brothers and sisters here in Yorkshire and across the world too.”
