AN ILLUSTRATED account of the end of the Great War and its impact on those who survived will be given in Rawdon.

Author, local historian and First World War specialist John Davies will present Towards the End: the Conclusion of the Great War and its Aftermath.

The talk will take place at 7.30 pm on Thursday, November 29 at Rawdon Community Library.

It will explore issues such as the role of women in post-war society, getting the vote, the reintegration of veterans, disability, disfigurement, unemployment, and the treatment of refugees.

Cllr Davies will examine what changed and what didn’t after 1918, and how the legacies of war continue to shape our society today.

Admission is free for Aireborough Civic Society members and is £4 for non-members. Newcomers can join on the night, with membership to include all five 2019 talks.

The event is Aireborough Civic Society’s last talk of 2018 and will look at the end of the Great War and its effects on the people of Aireborough as part of the bigger picture for Britain and Europe.
