WALKERS flocked to Otley last weekend to enjoy a special Walking Fair.
The event, held at the Courthouse on Sunday, November 18, was organised to mark the tenth anniversary of Otley becoming an accredited Walkers are Welcome town.
Opened by Town Mayor Councillor Mary Vickers, the fair featured stalls run by a variety of walking organisations inlcuding the Yorkshire Dales Green Lanes Alliance, the Ramblers and Open Country.
There were also talks and workshops held by individual walkers, including Walkers are Welcome Otley’s Chair Randal Metzger, showing maps and photographs of their favourite routes.
Mr Metzger said: “The fair went really well and we had about a lot of people there during the day, enjoying the stalls, workshops and talks.
“The stallholders themselves also got a lot of out of it by talking to each other and picking up new ideas.
“There was a really good atmosphere, plenty of visitors and we even got the weather too so it was very successful.”
In 2008 Otley became the 11th place in the country to achieve Walkers are Welcome status, a year after the national organisation was formed.
