PLANS for the redevelopment of part of East Morton's Busfeild Arms have been given the green light.

The 19th century property, which hosts a pub, restaurant and three B&B rooms and previously featured in Channel 4 TV series Four in a Bed, will receive a new glass-fronted extension.

The family-run business, which is owned by Martin Crosswaite, says work should begin before Christmas, adding the extension will replace a redundant lean to plastic awning.

North Yorkshire-based firm DPA Planning handled the application for the extension.

Sam Dewar, one of the firm's directors, said the proposals had faced objections from Bradford Council's conservation department.

But he added the approval decision was an example of what can be achieved by working closely with local authority planners to secure outcomes "that reflect the needs of local places and people".

He said: “This is a great result. We’re delighted to have played our part in securing the go-ahead for a major investment designed to improve facilities at this popular local destination.

“It’s a welcome outcome for what has been a difficult planning process."

Explaining why the extension should be approved, the Bradford Council officer's report stated it would enhance the appearance of the existing building, while maintaining the character of the East Morton Conservation Area and contributing to the local economy.
