A FUNDRAISING Pub Quiz Crawl will be held in Otley this week.

The event takes place on Thursday, November 15 and will raise money for BBC Children in Need.

Destined to become a new annual attraction, it will be an inter-pub competition designed to find the town’s ‘cleverest’ inn.

Otley Pub Club was contacted by the BBC about helping to arrange the quiz-crawl, and was delighted to help.

Chair Matt Hardin said: “The club is excited to help and support Children in Need with the BBC Leeds Pub Quiz Crawl, which will also be our first inter-pub event.

“Events like this show the importance of pubs.

“Not only are they social hubs but they serve as venues to bring people together as a community.

“We are delighted to provide and sponsor the Mulholland Cup (the new trophy for the winning pub) and hope it is the start of a long tradition in inter-pub quizzes.”

The cup has been named in honour of the pub club’s President, Greg Mulholland. He said: “I’m delighted that the team at BBC Leeds chose Otley for their special Pub Quiz Crawl.

“With Otley being a famous pub town it’s the perfect choice for this event and I hope to see lots of teams entering to make it a big success.

“I’m also touched and honoured that the pub club has named the winners’ trophy after me, to start an annual tradition.

“I’m sure this will be a great event and that the pubs and people of Otley will get behind it to raise money for Children in Need, which supports so many good causes.”

The pub quiz crawl will be hosted by BBC Radio Leeds presenter Richard Stead and participants should meet at the Horse and Farrier, on Bridge Street from 7pm to register for a 7.30pm start.

Otley Bellman Terry Ford will then be leading the quiz teams to the Black Horse, Black Bull and Otley Tavern.

A suggested £10 donation to BBC Children in Need per team of four is requested to enter.

Mr Stead said: “I’m looking forward to meeting the people of Otley and testing their knowledge!

“It should be a fun evening - and of course it’s all for a good cause, with all the money going to Children in Need.”
