A WHARFEDALE politician is calling on the Government to ‘act fast’ over building safety improvements.

The call comes following a new report that says hundreds of high rise buildings across the country still have the same type of cladding that was blamed for the Grenfell Tower fire.

The Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for Leeds North West, Kamran Hussain, said: “Many innocent lives were lost as a result of the Grenfell fire.

“The Government made promises afterwards and it is now failing to meet those. The Secretary of State committed to fully fund the removal and replacement of unsafe cladding by councils and housing associations, but there are still over 150 publicly owned buildings that are unsafe.

“This is a disgrace and is putting the lives of ordinary people at risk. How many buildings in Leeds are affected and how many people’s lives is this Government putting at risk in our city?

“The Government must act and act fast.”
