OTLEY councillors have restated concerns over planned changes to a local school’s admission policy.

Prince Henry’s Grammar School is currently consulting on proposals that would give ‘a preference’ to pupils at Bramhope Primary, which it is forming a Multi-Academy Trust with.

The Otley school insists the changes would not have any impact on any child who has Prince Henry’s as their nearest secondary - but local politicians remain dubious.

Otley Town Council approved a resolution in June that said it shared local concerns ‘in relation to the availability of places at Prince Henry’s for Otley residents’ children’.

Meeting last week, councillors reiterated those concerns. Chair Councillor Ray Georgeson (Lib Dem, Danefield) said: “All sides of the council shared the concerns expressed about future admissions policy at Prince Henry’s, which reflects comments made by residents.

“I urge the school to seriously consider the concerns expressed, which are made in good faith.”

The consultation ends on Friday, November 23.
