Those looking for something to do for half term here are a few films that may fit the bill.

If you enjoyed The Lego Movie then Warner Animation Groups latest animation musical comedy adventure, Small Foot is worth checking out. The story is based on Yeti Tracks, A book by Sergio Pablos, a writer and animator who also happens to be creator behind the Universal Pictures mega hit franchise, Despicable Me. The film brings plenty of original songs and physical comedy and will certainly keep the younger children’s attentions whilst entertaining them in the process. Small Foot will also be the feature for this week’s Kids Club.

Eli Roth is probably best known for directing tense and gruesome horror films such as Hostel, The Green Inferno, Cabin Fever and Inglorious Bastards. The House with a clock in its Walls is Roth’s first foray into family friendly fantasy films. If you’re looking for something darker and for slightly older kids. This maybe just the one for you. The director known for his ‘torture porn’ has managed to dial it back to just the right amount baroque style spooky thrills, along with a fair portion of jumpy moments that will get the whole family. The film is based on a children’s book by John Bellairs and with Jack Black as one of the main characters, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were watching Goosebumps however with Roth leading the way, the film climbs above the usual CGI creations to provide a more tangible scare. This is for those that are looking for more that the regular kids film.

One that can be watched by the whole family, is the third chapter to the spy-spoof franchise, Johnny English Strikes Again. The film is, probably unfairly, being compared to the successful Austin Powers franchise, that also managed to churn out the sequels without recreating itself. Austin Powers wasn’t clever or sophisticated but it was undeniably funny. Even with a talented British cast and the lovable Rowan Atkinson back to his best there is nothing new from Johnny English number three, saying that, you know what you’re getting and, well, Rowan Atkinson delivers doesn’t he. This is for those that want something easy to watch and a guaranteed guilt free laugh.

After a successful first weeks run A Star is Born is back at Ilkley Cinema for a second week. Anyone who has seen the Netflix documentary GaGa: Five Foot Two or listened to the paired back ‘Joanne’ album will know what an amazingly talented singer/songwriter Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (Lady GaGa) is. In Five Foot Two we see the woman behind all the extravagant outfits, raunchy videos and provocative statements. We see a woman broken with crippling muscle pains, emotionally empty after failed relationships but finally ready to stop hiding behind the little girl who didn’t believe she was good enough to make it.

A Star Is Born is the 4th time the film will be remade, produced and directed by Bradley Cooper, the secret to its success comes in the clever casting of its lead actress. Not only is Gaga a fine actor, but fits the character like a glove. This film is not just for Bradley Cooper or Lady Gaga fans though; this film is for anyone who has ever thought about giving up on a dream.
