AN OTLEY runner has begun a new series of fundraising races.

Danny Cooney has raised thousands for a variety of good causes by completing previous overseas marathons and other runs.

Now, after taking a summer break, he has put his running shoes back on - this time for local resident Natalie O’Shea’s Ghana Water Project and the Stroke Unit at LGI.

Danny has also named the new series of races - which he began on October 14 by completing the Palma, Majorca half marathon - in memory of a generous sponsor and supporter of his previous runs, Eric Wallace.

The Eric Wallace Run Series will see Danny taking on a variety of distances in: Bilbao, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Valencia, Lanzarote, Madeira, Murcia, Ibiza and Madrid.

He said: “Sport and fundraising is great fun and they go together, the aim of this run series is to help people in Ghana, and those affected by Stroke, and by getting together socially and being involved in the community, Eric’s spirit lives on.”
