THE funeral of a young rugby player from Bradford who died while in France is to be held next week.
The body of Harry Sykes, 16, was recovered from a lake near Carcassonne, in southern France, earlier this month after he was reported missing.
Harry, who is believed to have lived in Clayton Heights and was a former pupil of Lightcliffe Academy, had been travelling with team mates from the Halifax Elite Rugby Academy.
He also played for Queensbury ARLFC, joining the junior side when he was nine years old, and was in his seventh season with the current under-16s.
His funeral service will take place at Parkwood Crematorium, Elland, at 3.15 pm on Monday, October 1. This will be followed by a celebration of Harry’s life to be held at Brighouse Sports Club.
People are welcome to wear club shirts, any rugby shirt, or blue and white to the service.
The teenager's family have expressed their thanks to the British Consulate, the RFL Benevolent Fund, plus friends and well wishers who have supported them through the difficult period.
A request of family flowers only has been made, but a collection for the Harry Sykes Fund, to assist local young rugby league players, will be held.
A JustGiving page has also been set up by the RFL Benevolent Fund to support anyone wishing to make a contribution to the Harry Sykes Fund.
