THIS week saw the launch of a scheme to make homes in Otley more energy efficient.

The Town Council says the Otley Energy Savers project will help people stay warmer while cutting their bills.

The council is running the initiative - which includes a free visit to people's homes to offer independent advice - in partnership with the Groundwork charity's Green Doctor team.

Representatives from both groups, including the Town Mayor Councillor Mary Vickers, officially launched the venture in the Market Place on Monday, September 10.

Town council Chair Councillor Ray Georgeson (Lib Dem, Danefield) said: "Otley Energy Savers is a programme launched by the town council and run for us by Groundwork.

"Their Green Doctors will help you find practical ways to save energy and reduce carbon emissions with simple advice and assistance on everything from draught proofing to changing energy suppliers for a better deal.

"Thanks to all the Otley residents who have already been in touch for information and who joined us for the launch.

"Remember - saving energy makes good sense for your pocket and the planet."
