A STUDENT from Otley is heading to Cambridge after achieving three top graded A-levels.

Tom Morgan, who attends The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL), attained A*s in chemistry, physics and maths and will now go on to study engineering at Gonville and Caius College.

In all, seven students from Wharfedale or Horsforth were among the school’s top 100 achievers celebrating attaining ABB or above at A-level on Thursday, August 16.

Also celebrating were Mollie-May Campbell from Horsforth with A*s in biology and physics and an A in chemistry, and Samuel Joy from Arthington who achieved an A in physics and Bs in maths and biology.

Snighda Mahajan from Bramhope, meanwhile, received As in biology and Spanish and a B in chemistry while Shiva Sairam from Horsforth achieved an A* in classical civilisation, an A in history and a B in English literature.

Nick Summersgill, from Bramhope, attained As in government and politics and geography and a B in economics, with Ben Wyard, from Pool-in-Wharfedale, picking up straight As in chemistry, government and politics, and maths along with a C in physics.

One hundred students at GSAL - about 52 per cent of those sitting A-levels - achieved ABB or better this year, with 54 picking up the top grades of A*/A and 15 scooping all A*s.

Principal Sue Woodroofe said: "After the press coverage about the more rigorous reformed A-levels I’m delighted that almost half of our grades were at A*/A and three-quarters of grades were A*-B.

"Our students have achieved a superb set of results and their dedication and diligence has been impressive.

"These results are the culmination of years of commitment by staff and students alike, well supported by their families too.

"They leave the school well placed for the next chapter of their lives and we are very proud of them."
