FOUR teenagers battled it out to raise money for a cardiac charity.

The boys, from Horsforth and Cookridge, staged two amateur boxing bouts and raised £700 for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). The charity funds heart screening for young people and campaigns for a nationwide screening programme.

Travis Filono, Ben Stephenson, Louis Dennison and Jake Uren, all 17, had four months of intense training with Richard Smith who runs Bad Company Gym in Leeds. The event was attended by CRY representative Chris Embling whose son Rory died suddenly aged 26 in 2014.

Travis said: "We were nervous before our bouts but also excited and keen to show what we’d learned while raising money for a charity that does loads for young people like us."

Jake said: "We were cardiac tested recently at a screening in Doncaster and we’re delighted that people enjoyed our event which will make it possible for more young people to be screened."
