SUNDAY, May 27 saw Ilkley Soul Club inviting two DJs from the renowned Northern Soul club - “Northern Noise” in Chorley to entertain regulars and new attendees.

Shaun Callon and Garry Place didn’t disappoint.

And for this Bank Holiday weekend event they had an additional guest - acclaimed DJ and collector John Parker, regular at The Wardrobe in Leeds.

Keeping to the usual format of Ilkley Soul Club’s popular Sunday afternoon/evening sessions - organisers, Barry Innocenti and Ian Smith were on the decks for the opening and closing hours.

So Barry opened proceedings with a mixture of 100 mph Northern Soul oldies and up-tempo Tamla Motown tracks from mid to late sixties......such as Bobby Freeman - I’ll Never Fall In Love Again; Jay D. Martin - By Yourself; TouchMe, Hold Me, Kiss Me - The Inspirations and Spencer Wiggins - Let’s Talk It Over

Shaun Callon from Northern Noise was on next for the 4pm to 5pm slot and played a terrific set concentrating on tracks played at the famous original Twisted Wheel in Manchester.

Next on the decks was Garry Place, playing favourite Northern Soul floorfillers, which the audience truly appreciated.

Then John Parker came on for the 6pm to 7pm slot playing some great tracks including The Tomangoes - I Really Love You; The Salvadors - Stick By Me Baby; Bernie Williams - Ever Again; Joe Lama - My Life; Duke Browner - Crying over you and Del Larks - Job Opening

Ian actually “Double-Decked” with Ilkley Soul Club regular DJ, Keith Hudson for the last hour, 7pm to 8pm.

Spinning tracks such as Shawn Robinson - My Dear heart; Lee Andrews & The Hearts - Nevertheless; along with Court Davis- Try To Think What You’re Doing and Laverne Baker -Wrapped, Tied and Tangled, they kept the dancers happy right up until close-of-play.

Ilkley Soul Club will be doing it all again on Sunday, July 1, when the guest DJs will be Neil Grainger - Clitheroe Soul Club & Ribble FM radio and Glen Walker-Foster - Soulnet Radio Blackpool.
