BOUQUETS from a Guiseley florist have been seen by millions of people around the world after they were presented to the winners of the Tour de Yorkshire.

The event’s official florist Flowers by Karen produced 40 bouquets for the winners of each stage of the Tour, which attracted 2.2 million spectators and was watched by 9.6 million people around the globe.

Melanie Harvey, who has owned the business for the past 11 years, follows cycling and realised the event would need bouquets. She put her company forward for the job and was delighted to be chosen.

Soaring temperatures during the event did present problems.

Melanie said: “Not the best temperatures for fresh flowers across the weekend however, we produced them in batches and once the footage was seen across ITV4 and the local news channels it was quite overwhelming seeing our bouquets on television.”

The bouquets depicting the colour scheme of the event included white roses, gerbera, delphinium, iris, solidago and hypericum.

The flowers proved a big hit with the overall winner of the women’s race Kirsten Wild who messaged the florist via Instagram, saying: “They are beautiful, Thanks”
