ILKLEY resident Aidan Higgins has been chosen to contest the Ilkley seat for Labour at May’s council elections.
Mr Higgins has lived in the town since a young age and attended Ilkley Grammar School before attending university.
He is an opponent of the cut backs at his former school and will campaign for better provision of education for children with special needs in Wharfedale.
He also supports the building of more affordable housing to meet the needs of residents across the District.
Mr Higgins, 23, a recent graduate from the University of Cambridge, said: “It is a pleasure and a privilege to be selected as the Labour candidate for Ilkley.
“I have always enjoyed campaigning in Ilkley. I have had many great conversations on the doorsteps and am looking forward to meeting many more residents in the coming months.
“As someone who grew up in the town I am passionate about its future. I am excited about the opportunity to work alongside Ilkley residents, the council, and our MP to provide the best for our community.”
Ilkley MP, John Grogan said of Mr Higgins: “Aidan is young, enthusiastic and passionate about Ilkley. If elected he would be a breath of fresh air in local politics.”
