THE Gove Bookshop in Ilkley is to host two Yorkshire writers this month.

On Wednesday, February 7 at 7pm Richard Morris will be launching his new book, Yorkshire - A Lyrical History of England's Greatest County. It's a very wide-ranging history, weaving family stories, travelogue and ecology, and covering whaling, mines and conscientious objection. Tickets for the event are £5 including refreshments and can be obtained from the shop (01943 609335 or email )

Then on Thursday, February 22 at 7pm Val Waterhouse will be at the independent Ilkley bookstore to talk about the new Persephone Books edition of stories by Bradford-born author Marjorie "Malachi" Whitaker. The Journey Home and Other Stories was the subject of a very popular event at the Ilkley Literature Festival, and Val is coming over from Italy to her home town to tell guests more about this long-neglected writer.

Tickets for this event are also £5 and can be purchased from The Grove Bookshop, 10, The Grove, telephone 01943 609335 or email

Events held in January proved a success. Bradford-born author and illustrator Chris Naylor Ballesteros held a story time event and also installed a window display inspired by his latest children's picture book, I Love You Stick Insect, which is now attracting lots of attention.
