ADDINGHAM Civic Society has unveiled the village's eight Blue Plaque at Penny Hole Cottage.
Addingham’s Low Mill was the world’s first successful worsted Spinning Mill and was built in 1787. Penny Hole Cottage was the Gatehouse for the Mill where those workers who arrived late for work were fined one penny.
Addingham Civic Society and Addingham Parish Council contributed to the cost of the plaque although the bulk of the cost was met by Colin and Jane Welby, the current occupants of Penny Hole Cottage.
Addingham Civic Society Chairman Jim Robinson said: "This plaque is an excellent addition to the seven already in place around the village and uniquely demonstrates, what must have been interesting times for the workers in those days! Our next plaque is scheduled for April next year but I’m not giving anything more away at present."
