COLLEGE bosses have unveiled their Ilkley course prospectus for September amid job losses and cuts to subsidised course.

Bradford College - formerly Bradford and Ilkley Community College - is urging prospective students to pick up a copy of the prospectus and apply for places now.

The college provides largely foreign languages, computing and leisure skills courses from its Bridge House centre on Bolton Bridge Road in Ilkley, and Ilkley Grammar School.

It previously ran Ilkley College at Wells House, now sold off and converted into houses. Last summer, it closed its Burley Grange centre, Burley-in-Wharfedale, despite protests from residents and a ward councillor.

The current academic year also saw the number of courses in Ilkley cut, course fees raised and the staff suffered pay cuts. The college blamed the cuts on the loss of a large Government subsidy and change of Government emphasis prioritising vocational and academic education for young people.

Around 30 staff in Wharfedale, including part time tutors and a full time community development worker, are expected to lose their jobs in 2007. The number of Learning and Skills Council (LSC) subsidised leisure learning' courses is expected to be halved.

Part-time courses on offer in Ilkley include Interior Design, Reflexology, Wine Appreciation, several Art courses, Cake Decoration, Computing First Steps, Guitar Playing, and computing and Information Technology.

Courses leading to a qualification include GCSE Maths, courses in French, Spanish and Italian, IT courses and Royal Yachting Association Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster courses.

Copies of the 2007-2008 Part-time prospectus are available now from Bridge House, by calling (01943) 436283, or by sending an e-mail to (c.wavish@bradfordcollege.ac.uk).
