ON A cold and bright Friday morning two groups of people took advantage of a 'one off' opening of Ilkley's Manor House.

The Friends of the Manor House hosted a coffee morning when local historian Alex Cockshott who talked about Christmas traditions and decorating the home for the festive season. Warm drinks and seasonal mince pies were provided.

Meanwhile a group from St Mary's School in Menston was being taken on a tour of the outside of the building by historian Mike Dixon to learn about its architecture and its social history.

Ann Peacock, committee member of the Friends of the Manor House said: "This forlorn yet much loved building has been decorated for Christmas to revive its spirit and remind the town that it is a project still to be resolved.

"Friends of the Manor House will be taking a stall on December 4 at the Real Food Market where you can pop along and offer your encouragement and support."
