Ben Rhydding 6 Neston 1

THIS was an exciting game between two fast break teams and probably saw Ben Rhydding’s most accomplished performance of the season so far.

The North Men's Division One leaders went 1-0 up quite quickly when Elliot Dowley’s silky skills dumbfounded several Neston defenders and allowed Will Tench to make the perfect pass to Danny Foster for an easy tap in.

Neston’s immediate reply was to counter attack effectively and score on the break despite hard running back from Rhydding’s midfield.

Neston were denied the ball for much of the game and Rhydding stroked their passes patiently around the pitch while the work off the ball in pulling Neston out of shape was relentless.

Ross McMillan scored the next goal with a stunning deflection that screeched into the roof of the net. Neil Sugden continued to steer the flow of the game from the back and Danny Foster and Myles Locke made good interceptions to keep Rhydding in possession.

Neston did not really touch the ball much in the second half as Rhydding patiently kept possession as they fizzed the ball around.

The smooth flow of the game was a delight for the crowd and some outstanding hockey was on display to be enjoyed.

Neston’s goalkeeper played brilliantly and made multiple saves to keep the score down.

Will Musgrave scored the third from a corner and Andrew Lorimer mopped up after Robert Ramsden’s strike was saved, taking it to 4-1.

Connor Dowley scored a beautiful corner to make it five and his brother, Elliot followed in his footsteps to have the last word with a sublime reverse shot to net the sixth goal.
