Christians headed for Wharfedale’s scenic viewpoints to welcome the first rays of sun on Easter Sunday and its churches for services

CHURCHES Together in Ilkley organised a service at the Cow and Calf Rocks at 6.15am on Sunday morning to mark the resurrection of Christ.
As the sun rose over the mist, which filled the valley, the Rev Dick Watson, of All Saints Church, reflected that “it was like God’s glory shining over the fog of our lives”.
The message of Easter was delivered by the All Saints curate, the Rev Steve Proudlove, and the singing was led by musicians from All Saints and St John’s Churches.
There was also outdoor worship around Ilkley town centre on Good Friday, as Churches Together in Ilkley held a Walk of Witness attended by 80 people.
The walk from All Saints Church ended in final prayers at the bandstand, led by the Rev Peter Willox, Priest in Charge of St John’s Church, Ben Rhydding, with the musicians of St John’s and All Saints.
Meanwhile in Addingham, a congregation of more than 160 people were joined by all creatures great and small on Easter Sunday – including a large Easter Bunny, and two alpacas wearing Easter bonnets.
And around 280 of worshippers rose early to attend a dramatic outdoor Easter Sunday service above Otley at the Chevin Cross, on Surprise View, for 7am.
The ceremony was led by the Rev Lesley Taylor and Rev Rick Ormrod.
