CONSTRUCTION of a not-for-profit community soft play area at an Ilkley church is well underway and on course for opening in June.

Riddings Hall on Riddings Road, part of Christchurch, is undergoing a major transformation, and work is said to be going well and on schedule for the opening of ‘Dan’s Den’ this summer.

The installation and building works have been made possible by a massive fundraising effort, but the team behind the project is still seeking funding for the smaller items and will be setting up ‘wish lists’ at various local businesses.

A Book Wish List has been set up at The Grove Bookshop, Ilkley, and those behind the Dan’s Den scheme are asking for anyone who wishes to support the project, by buying a book for the Dan’s Den Book Corner, to go and check the wish list with the staff at the bookshop.

The building work includes installing two new disabled toilets, a secure entrance and reception area, a new kitchen, remodelled balcony area and a new café area. There will also be the installation of the three-storey soft play equipment – which has been designed in collaboration with local families and local children’s support groups.

The whole hall will be given a makeover to make it fresh and appealing for all who will use the hall, even when Dan’s Den is closed.
