LEEDS North West MP Greg Mulholland and Otley Town Mayor, Councillor Nigel Gill, helped Otley Sailing Club officially open their new facilities at Weston Water last Sunday.
In glorious weather, the ribbon was cut on the £47,883 clubhouse upgrade, which includes a wheelchair-accessible wet room containing a shower, toilet, changing bed and electrically-operated hoist.
The club, which is a centre of excellence for the Royal Yachting Association’s Sailability scheme, run a programme for children, young people and adults with a wide range of disabilities and complex learning difficulties, and they aim to provide over 1,500 individual sailing experiences per year. Donations were also presented to Otley Sailing Club by club sponsors B&ES and ManPro Ltd, and that money will be towards disabled sailing.
