COMMUNITY groups ranging from a junior football club to local scouts have been awarded hundreds of pounds from an Ilkley fund.

Ilkley Community Fund has given a total of £1,500 to 12 groups which serve Wharfedale's community, and is keen to hear from any local businesses or individuals who would like to contribute to the cause.

The community fund was set up in 1994 and considers applications from a variety of community projects and for activities which will be of benefit to members of the public.

The biggest grant given out this time was £500 awarded to Wharfedale District Scout Council, towards disabled access at its premises. The money was donated by Peter Marshall of the Sir George Martin Trust.

Most of the other successful applicants were given £150 grants. Among these were Burley Juniors Football Club, which was granted money for equipment, and CTI 2000, the Ilkley combined churches project for adults with learning disabilities.

Ilkley 2000 Bandstand Trust was given £150 for security lighting, Ilkley Flower Show Society received its grant for tables, display boards and lighting, and another of the awards has gone to Ben Rhydding Community Football organisation towards equipment.

Other beneficiaries included lifesaving group Ilkley Community First Responders, Ilkley in Bloom, choir Cantores Olicanae, Ilkley Youth and Community, and the Riding for the Disabled Association.

Carousel was granted £50 for setting up a local women's group.

Ilkley Community Fund is keen to hear from any individuals or businesses who would like to contribute to the fund and help local community groups and schemes. Donors are asked to contact the treasurer, Lawrence Twite, on (01943) 430324.
