OTLEY’S MP is urging people to take a few minutes to talk about mental health.
Today is Time To Talk Day – a national awareness-raising event to break down stigmas attached to mental health issues.
Research shows that one in four people will be directly affected – with 11 per cent of people in Leeds having been diagnosed with depression.
And many more will have a relative, friend or colleague who has experienced a mental health problem.
Greg Mulholland (Lib Dem, Leeds North West) said: “The Liberal Democrats will champion equality for all people with mental health problems and won’t stop until this is achieved.
“It’s wrong that in this day and age there is still stigma around mental health.
“Physical and mental health should not only be treated equally in the NHS, but in all spheres of life.”
The coalition government recently called on NHS Trusts to review their procedures for mental health problems to cut suicide rates.
