CAMPAIGNERS opposing housing developments in Menston are celebrating a second victory in days after learning a judicial review is to go ahead.

Menston is expecting to make history by being the first village in the country to instigate a judicial review against its local authority over a planning application.

Menston Action Group (MAG) is challenging Bradford Council's decision to grant planning permission for 179 houses on land off Derry Hill.

The group recently went to a pre-hearing at the High Court in Leeds, held to determine if a full judicial review would take place. Now it has been informed the review will take place.

MAG has yet to hear when the proceedings will take place.

Spokesman, Steve Ellams, said he was "delighted" with the announcement - which comes just days after Bradford councillors rejected a full planning application for 134 houses on a Bingley Road. A third planning applications - for 12 homes, has yet to be determined.

Dr Ellams said: "We're two nil and one to go. Within a week we've got two results."
