PEOPLE in Bramhope are being urged to object to plans for a housing development and changes to a public park.

Local people have until February 13 to make their feelings known about the proposed four-home development on land at Leeds Road. The revised application to Leeds City Council also suggests changes to the Jubilee Copse Public Park.

Earlier proposals from Bramhope Assets were rejected by Leeds Council last year. The fresh submission is being strongly opposed by Bramhope and Carlton Parish Council, which is calling on villagers to officially object to the scheme by contacting Leeds City Council.

In a letter to residents, council chairman Denis Johnson says: “This application includes proposals to enhance Jubilee Copse (which is owned by the village of Bramhope and not by Bramhope Assets) including upgrading and lighting the footpath.

“Your parish council strongly opposed the previous application for housing on this site. There is nothing in the new application to lead the parish council to change its stance.”

Cllr Johnson adds: “The parish council is also opposed to the proposals for Jubilee Copse.

“Plans to resurface the footpath and build a bridge over the stream have been in the council budget for some time but were delayed by the appeal against the Public Right of Way.”

The parish council is opposing the application on a range of grounds including the loss of a long-standing key green space and damage to the Conservation Area, as well as traffic and highways issues and inappropriate changes to the park.

In January this year Bramhope Assets held a consultation event in a bid to involve local people.

If the application is successful the company will make a “significant” investment into the enhancement of the copse, and invited people to put forward ideas for spending the money.
