THE LONG-DELAYED inquiry into the Iraq War should be published “immediately” according to a Wharfedale MP.

Greg Mulholland has said that it is unacceptable that the Chilcot Inquiry, set up back in 2009, is to be delayed yet again.

Inquiry chairman Sir John Chilcot announced last week that there was “no realistic prospect” of publishing his findings, into the reasons for the UK joining the 2003 invasion of Iraq, before the General Election in May.

Mr Mulholland said: “My constituents, service personnel, their families, and the whole country have waited long enough.

“It is time the Chilcot inquiry is published and the truth about the Iraq War is told.

“We must find out how and why this disastrous decision was taken and if, as seems clear, Tony Blair misled the House of Commons and the country, then he and others must face the consequences.

“It is very suspicious that the inquiry is being delayed, and there is danger that some witnesses are wanting to water it down or delay publication until after the election.

“It is frustrating, we are still waiting six years on.”
