AN MP has praised the efforts of the Muslim community in encouraging people to wear poppies.
Shipley MP Philip Davies said many Muslim soldiers contributed to the victories in both World Wars and paid the ultimate price.
Mr Davies has tabled a Commons motion praising the call for unity.
He said: “There was a design and launch of a new poppy headscarf for Muslim women to wear in support of this cause and all these efforts would have undoubtedly enhanced community relations.
“Actions like this also helps counter the deplorable actions of a small number of extremists, who in no way represent the views of the overwhelming majority of Muslims, who have symbolically burned the poppy in the name of Islam in recent years.”
