GHYLL Royd School’s Form 5 girls’ swimming team took part in the ISA swimming championships in Macclesfield, competing in a number of team and individual events including the U12s medley relay and the U12s squadron relay.

The team secured second place in the heats of the U12s medley relay.

The U12s squadron relay saw the girls finish third in the heats to secure a place in the final and finish in sixth place.

Individually, Scarlett Guise competed in the girls open butterfly to secure a third place finish in her heat and fifth place in the final. Hermione Roe entered the girls U11s breaststroke, taking a comfortable win in her heat and gold in the final.

Hermione also entered the U11 girls time trial freestyle, finishing first in her heat and winning the overall event. Daisy Laxton swam in the U11s backstroke, finishing fifth in a hard fought heat.

Hermione’s performance secured her position of number four in the U10s Great Britain breaststroke rankings and saw her selected to represent Ghyll Royd at the national championships in London at the Olympic Park in January 2015.

Headteacher of the Burley-in-Wharfedale school, David Martin said: “What an amazing result for the girls, we are immensely proud.”
