A CONCERT in tribute to Denbighshire’s first director of social services will be held in Rhyl this weekend.

Held by the Rhuddlan, Dyserth, Rhyl and Bodelwyddan appeal committee,The Concert to Remember Meirion Hughes will raise money for the 2020 Urdd Eisteddfod in Denbigh at the Rhyl Pavilion on Friday, February 15 at 7.30pm.

A notable figure in Denbighshire, Mr Hughes died in December 2017 and will be honoured by appearances from Trelawnyd Male Voice Choir, Rhos-on-Sea baritone John Ieuan Jones and Rhyl's Ysgol Dewi Sant choir.

Gareth Wynne Jones, chairman of the appeal committee, said: "I am sure we will have a veritable musical feast from our artistes on the night, and we are extremely grateful to all of them for their contributions."

Gareth Owen will preside over the evening as master of ceremonies, with all profits from the concert going towards the committee’s target of contributing £33,000 to assist the Urdd in holding the 2020 event in Denbighshire.
