It’s been 10 years exactly since the first ever episode of Grey’s Anatomy hit our screens, and while all that life saving and complicated romantic drama was going on, several cast members have become stars in their own right.
Sandra Oh
Audiences fell in love with Sandra Oh as Christina Yang, she was fiercely independent, strong and feisty, with a resting gloomy face. The Korean-Canadian actress left the show in 2010 and won a whole bunch of awards, including a Golden Globe, multiple Screen Actor’s Guild awards, and an Emmy nomination.
She’s also been praised for helping to raise the profile of Asian actors in American TV.
Katherine Heigl
Probably the biggest name to come out of the medical show, Katherine played Izzy Stevens, who battled stage 5 cancer in secret and fell in love with a heart patient.
She’s known for her romantic comedies, like 27 Dresses and Knocked Up. Now she plays a CIA analyst in State of Affairs.
Patrick Dempsey
Playing neurosurgeon Derek Shepherd, he became known as Dr Dreamy, and with good reason. He probably still has trouble shaking off that role, but has appeared in an array of average chick flicks like Made of Honor and Sweet Home Alabama, as well as Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon.
But his talents clearly don’t just lie in acting, he’s actually in motor sport now and has been in plenty of high-profile races.
Isaiah Washington
After playing Dr Preston Burke on the show, he was famously fired before making a surprise return seven years later. He’s also appeared in several Spike Lee films and Blue Caprice.
He’s also written a book about his early life and searching for his roots through DNA tests, which showed he had ancestors in Sierra Leone.
