Otley Little Theatre is delighted to be presenting an award-winning play at The Courthouse Theatre in Otley on February 25 and 26.

Humble Boy, written by Charlotte Jones, premiered in 2001 at the National Theatre in London and starred Diana Rigg, originally from Leeds, and won the Critic’s Circle Best New Play award for 2002, as well as the People’s Choice Best Play for the same year.

The author was given the Susan Smith Blackburn writers award in 2001 for this play.

Directed by Meg Morton for OLT, the play is a poignant comedy about broken vows, failed hopes and the joys of bee-keeping – with added astrophysics, unified field theories and gazpacho. Stir well, sit back and enjoy!

The play centres on the relationship between Felix (Andy Price) and his mother, Flora (Gill Coverdale).

Flora is counselled by her friend Mercy (Lena Gazey) about her relationship with George (Phil Marston) whose daughter Rosie (Caroline Marston) has designs on Felix.

All are observed by the mysterious gardener, Jim (Mike Waring), and there is a surprising twist at the end too.

An excellent evening’s entertainment is assured so you are recommended to come along and enjoy it.

Tickets are available from The Courthouse Theatre, on 01943 467466, and are priced at £8 for adults and £6 concessions, with a £1 discount if bought before the day of the performance.
