Guiseley singer/guitarist Andy Doonan fronts the Leeds band Crimson Daydream and they have another gig at The Cockpit on Friday, December 12.

The four-piece indie/punk band will this time appear in The Cockpit’s smaller Cockpit 3 after performing three sets on the bigger stage at this popular venue in the past.

Doonan, however, is not fazed by the downsizing saying: “It will be a great intimate gig and we hope to bring back some of our older stuff in a mix with four of our new songs.

“ I think for our cover we will still go for the Killers’ Mr Brightside but then again we could plump for the Foo Fighters’ My Hero.

“We want to keep a fast pace, we don’t get long – about 30 minutes or so – and we have to make the most of it.”

Crimson Daydream have been fairly quiet on the gigging scene in the last year as the lads are now all at universities in different parts of the country – two at York St John’s, one in Warrington and one in Leeds. Although they manage to gather fortnightly for practice, it is a little harder sorting out gigs to fit in with their lectures and work placements.

They last performed at the Red Festival at Rios in Leeds back in August. Prior to that they performed at the May Ball at York St John University but they hope to get out and about a bit more in the New Year and have lined up a gig at the New Roscoe in Leeds as well as a private gig at the Queen’s Hotel in Leeds.

The lads are ever hopeful of being signed but now need to take a step forward to achieve that and are seeking out some bigger venues and more regular bookings. At the Cockpit 3 they will be giving support to headliners The Little Comets.

l The Bacchae fronted by Ilkley singer Harriet Bevan played The Cockpit in Leeds last Saturday giving support to Aces and Eights.

They are lined up for a private party at Anthony’s at Flannels before appearing at The Dice Club in London on December 14.

This Leeds band, who wowed audiences at both the Leeds and Reading Festivals last summer after winning the Future Sound Competition, will then return to The Cockpit to appear with Lord Auch on January 16.

They have another gig in Leeds in March at Oporto.
