YOUNG performers are spreading festive cheer after being given a “secret elf challenge”.

The junior cast members of a Christmas Spectacular, to be staged in Yeadon by Futurist Theatre Productions, have been given £10 each to help the less fortunate.

They have shopped at charity shops for coats, duvets and jumpers to donate to local homeless shelters, they have created boxes for Operation Christmas Child and have also bought toys to give to under-privileged children.

Director Catherine Moglia said: “It really is heartwarming to see our junior cast members get so involved in helping the local community. Futurist is all about putting a smile on people’s faces after all, whether that’s through charitable giving or the magic of musical theatre.”

Futurist has also decided to adopt a donkey this year. Harbin was abandoned at the roadside and now lives happily at the Donkey Sanctuary in Leeds.

A spokeswoman said: “The team are delighted to support the fantastic charity and hope Harbin gets a festive treat or two this year.”

The show which runs at Yeadon Town Hall from December 19 to December 23, will raise money for Mind. Futurist has already raised £1,125 for the mental health charity with a summer production.

A spokeswoman said: “Come along to enjoy festive hits, spectacular choreography, snazzy costumes and a whole load of Christmas cheer delivered by a truly fantastic cast and creative team.”
