THE JOYS of spring will be showcased in song at Horsforth Choral Society’s March concert.

The choir will perform excerpts from oratorios from across the ages in St Margaret’s Church, Horsforth, at 7.30pm on Friday, March 22. The concert promises an evening of entertainment to set the scene for spring and the Easter season.

The programme offers a range of music and moods, with a selection from large and well-known works including Handel’s Messiah and Haydn’s Creation. From the rousing Hallelujah Chorus, to the more contemplative mood of Stainer’s God so Loved the World, and the moving plea of suffering humanity contained in All Ye That Cried unto the Lord from Elijah, the concert shows how different composers have approached the meaning and story of Easter.

Tim Knight, the choir’s guest conductor, said: “I’m delighted to introduce such a varied and enjoyable programme for our March concert. We have a lovely selection of music, which will showcase the choir’s ability to tackle a range of styles and dynamics, as well as being accessible and entertaining for our audience.”

Tickets are available on the door, from Yorkshire College of Music and Drama on 0113 243 1605, or from MC Consumables, on Town Street Horsforth. They cost £8 for adults and £5 for students. Admission is free to under 18s.

The choir rehearses at St Margaret’s Parish Centre in Horsforth on Monday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm. All ages are welcome, and no audition is necessary.
