CHRISTMAS scenes from days gone by are captured in these photographs spanning more than eight decades of the 20th century.

Children can be seen enjoying festive parties at Yeadon South View infants school in 1984, Guiseley Secondary Modern School in 1959 and Oxford Road Nursery School in Guiseley in 1950.

In an image from 1900 “Licensed game dealer” E Howgate displays rabbits, fowl and game birds underneath a message wishing “A Merry Christmas To All.” The butcher’s shop next door has carcasses outside.

The photograph was originally taken onto a glass slide by E.E.Slater of Hopeville, Yeadon.

A picture of St Oswald’s Parish Church in Guiseley was turned into a greeting card on 1904, with the message “A Happy Christmas and a Bright New Year.”

A message on the bottom reads “What do you think of this old church?”

The card was sent to Miss Annis Taylor in Pontefact, with a message reading: “Dear Annis, Frankie is delighted with his Picture Book. Wishing you and all the family a Happy and Prosperous New Year, I remain yours sincerely Lil”

All the photographs are from the online archive of Aireborough Historical Society.
