HUGE crowds turned out to see the arrival of the first trams to Aireborough more than a century ago.
The service from Yeadon and Rawdon to Leeds was launched in May 1909 and was extended to Guiseley in June of the same year. Each township paid £400 to Leeds for the service.
To mark the important occasions three trams - decorated with flags and bunting - were run from Leeds to Aireborough.
The top right photograph shows the first tram to reach Guiseley - closely followed by another vehicle. Onlookers had donned their Sunday best for the special occasion, and excitement can be seen on the faces of many of those who witnessed the historic arrival. The inaugural trams are also pictured in Guiseley in the pictures immediately below and bottom left.
In the bottom right photograph three decorated trams can be seen surrounded by an excited throng in Yeadon, at the junction of Green Lane and New Road Side. Trams ran until 1934 when they were replaced by buses.
